Allizabeth Collins - The Ketovorous-Ketosaurus
About me? Well, I live in rural Maryland with my parents, brother, four indoor cats, two outdoor cats, three indoor fish, and one crotchety octogenarian, (who lives under the stairs). I have always had two passions in life, books and biology, one of which I just got my Master's degree in, and I am blessed that I am able to pursue both! Other things I am known for include: sarcasm dispenser, frequent redditor, chem/ bio instructor, animal lover, pun maker, advice giver, book reviewer, arachnophobic, hater of clowns, dinosaur enthusiast, collector of the strange, whisperer to the weird, and overall jack-of-all-trades.
I decided to create Ketovorous Kitchen in June 2015 after eight successful months on a strict ketogenic diet. After struggling with being overweight my whole life, even with diet and exercise, I was finally diagnosed with hypothyroidism and put on medication; however, several doctors told me that since I had been diagnosed after puberty and post-weight gain, that I would probably be heavy forever. So in October 2014, after lurking around the /r/xxketo subreddit for several months, I decided to ignore all the pessimistic doctorly advise and try something new, something scientific. I changed the way I ate - sticking to high fat/ low carb, continued going to the gym, and promised myself that I would not cheat. Low and behold, eight months later I am halfway to my goal weight and I feel amazing. I am not saying that being a "ketovore" is easy. There have been plenty of times when I wanted to cheat, especially at weddings, parties, during finals, and on vacation, but I willed myself to KCKO (Keep Calm and Keto On), staying motivated by my goals, my family and friends, and members of /r/xxketo, /r/keto, the xxketo Facebook and MFP. This blog will be a hodge-podge of my keto-associated scale- and non-scale victories (SV/ NSV), as well as original recipes and tips/ tricks for those living a ketogenic, paleogenic, or LCHF lifestyle. I will try and update it weekly, with hopes that it might inspire, motivate, and help others with similar goals. I'm also the creator of The Paperback Pursuer blog where I read and review all genres of books, including cookbooks; so if anyone needs an honest review, especially where keto is concerned, drop me a line at allizabethcollins@gmail.com.
